One of our favorite breeds is now available to us in lavender! Introduced from England in the late 1800's, Orpingtons quickly became one of the most popular farm fowls in this country. Large, quiet and stately birds, Lavender Orpingtons are a dual purpose fowl and are easily dressed. They are a lovely white skinned eating bird...plump and juicy from your oven. Roosters will average 7-9 lbs. These cold-hardy beauties are good winter layers, shelling out brown eggs right through cold weather. The Lavender Orpington chicken is a highly docile bird and is very suitable for families with small children. They are very popular and also tend to be smarter than some other breeds. Some Orpingtons have learned tricks and they usually come when their name is called. They love to be handled. These beautiful fowl are some of our best setters and mothers. Perfect for hatching eggs from non-setters. They are young and very healthy and active. We are very proud of these new "purple chickens", we know that you will be also. Lavender Orpingtons breed true.
